Dryer Machine

What Is Dryer Machine

A drying machine, also known as a food dehydrator, is a device used to remove moisture from food products to extend their shelf life and preserve their nutritional value. It works by circulating heated air and removing the moisture content from the food, resulting in dried food that can be stored for longer periods without spoilage.

Advantages of Dryer Machine

Preservation of nutrients
Dryer machine remove moisture from food while preserving its nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Unlike other preservation methods like canning or freezing, which may cause some nutrient loss, dehydrated food retains much of its nutritional value.

Extended shelf life
By removing moisture, dryer machine significantly extend the shelf life of food. Dried food can be stored for months or even years when properly packaged and stored in a cool, dry place.

Convenience
Food drying machines offer convenience in preserving food. They allow you to dry a variety of foods at home, giving you control over the quality and ingredients. You can also preserve seasonal produce or excess garden harvests, reducing food waste.

Compact and space-saving
Dehydrators are generally compact and take up less space compared to other food preservation equipment like canning jars or freezers. They are designed to maximize the drying capacity within a smaller footprint.

Versatility
Dryer machine can be used to dry a wide range of foods, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats, fish, and more. Some dehydrators even come with additional features like temperature control, multiple drying trays, and adjustable airflow, providing flexibility in the drying process.

Cost-effective
Investing in a food drying machine can save you money in the long run. You can take advantage of sales or bulk purchases of fresh produce and preserve them through drying, reducing the need to buy expensive dried food products from the store.

Different Types of Dryer Machine
Vibrating Fluid Bed Dryer
FBD Dryer Machine
Drying Machine For Soybean Protein
Whey Powder Dryer

Solar dryer
It is the closest to traditional methods except that the space is completely closed and the temperature and humidity are fully controlled. In this method, the food is placed in a chamber that has walls and ceilings made of glass and dried using sunlight. The chamber has an air circulation system for moisture outflow and temperature sensors.

Cabinet dryer
The simplest, most economical and affordable way to dry food is to use a cabinet dryer. Cabinet dryers are used by the operator or farmers or for domestic business operations due to their simple mechanism and ease of use for the operator to dry more fruits and vegetables. In this method, the food is placed on metal or plastic trays and enclosed in a cube chamber.

Tunnel dryer
Tunnel dryer is a fully commercial machine used in factories not only for drying food but also for medical, chemical and mineral industries. Production capacity in this machine starts from 1 ton and there are machines with a capacity of several tens of tones.

Continuous dryer
It looks like a tunnel dryer but looks slightly different in mechanism. The difference is in how the raw material moves, with the material moving continuously down from the top of the hot air chamber, and if the material is dried it gets out of the cycle , otherwise the process will continue. . It is often used to dry tea.

Vacuum dryer
These types of dryers have a sophisticated process for drying materials and are mostly used for drying materials that are heat sensitive. The reason for this is the mechanism of this device. The first product in the container is placed in a vacuum and temperature, low pressure and high pressure is heated by hot air. Time and temperature in this machine is lower than other methods and the product is of higher quality. In addition to drying food, this type of dryer is used to dry all heat-sensitive materials..

Puffy dryer
Puffy dryer is a relatively new method used for products that require high porosity and high water reabsorption rate. The quality of the products is very high but covers a small production volume. In this dryer, small pieces of raw material are first subjected to a high temperature and pressure for a short time and then returned to atmospheric pressure. This is due to the sophisticated mechanism of the new technology and the almost non-economical and laboratory approach used in laboratories and research to develop technology or study specific materials.

Fluidized bed dryer
A very new mechanism whereby particles of matter are suspended in hot air to dry completely. The particles are completely suspended by fluidization in the hot air stream, which dries out all surfaces of the particulate material evenly. The main limiting factor of this process is the particle size because the particle size must be as small as possible to allow it to be suspended with less air.

Freeze dryer
In freeze dryer, by lowering the temperature of the crop, most of its moisture becomes ice and then sublimated by lowering the ambient pressure. The freeze dryer process can be used for many foods, especially products whose quality is important to the consumer. During freeze drying, heat and mass transfer processes are optimally performed. Depending on the shape of the drying system, heat transfer is carried out through the frozen or dried layer of the product. Obviously, the heat transfer through the frozen layer is fast, so it will not limit the drying speed.

Deep bed dryer
Deep bed dryers, also known as fixed bed dryers, are one of the most common types of agricultural dryers, designed for heterogeneous drying of grain in a deep layer (more than 20 cm deep) where drying is faster at the inlet end of the dryer than that at the exhaust end deep bed dryer consist of silo or bin (rectangular warehouses) fitted with ducting or false floors through which air is forced.

Design of Dryer Machine

Most modern food dehydrators are low-power convection ovens that use heated air flow to reduce the water content of foods. The water content of food is usually very high, typically 80–95% for various fruits and vegetables and 50–75% for various meats. Removing moisture from food restrains various bacteria from growing and spoiling food, as well as dramatically reducing the weight and often the volume of the food, making it easier to store. Thus, food dehydrators are used to preserve and extend the shelf life of various foods.

Food dehydrators require heat sources such as solar energy, electric power or biofuel. They vary in size from large-scale dehydration projectsto do-it-yourself projects or commercially sold appliances for domestic use. A commercial food dehydrator's basic parts usually consist of a heating element, an electric fan, air vents which allow air to circulate, and food trays to lay food upon. The trays most commonly have slits to provide more surface area between the food and the air. A dehydrator's heating element, fans and vents simultaneously work to direct hot air over the food, accelerate surface evaporation, and warm the food to also release moisture from its interior. This process continues until the food is dried to a substantially lower water content, usually less than 20%.

Most foods are dehydrated at 130 °F (54 °C), although meats being made into jerky should be dehydrated at a higher temperature of 155 °F (68 °C)—or preheated to that temperature—to guard against pathogens that may already be in the meat. These temperatures are similar to those used in pasteurization, and achieve similar effects. The key to successful food dehydration is the application of a constant temperature and adequate air flow. Too high a temperature or too low of airflow can cause hardened foods: food that is hard and dry on the outside, but moist, and therefore vulnerable to spoiling, on the inside.

Key Components and Features in Dryer Machine

Heating element
The machine is equipped with a heating element that generates heat to warm the air inside the drying chamber. Electric heating elements are commonly used in dryer machine.

Air flow system
The drying chamber contains a fan or blower that circulates the heated air uniformly throughout the chamber. This helps to ensure even drying of the food.

Drying trays or racks
Food items are placed on drying trays or racks that are arranged inside the drying chamber. These trays allow air to circulate around the food for efficient drying.

Temperature control
Food drying machines typically have temperature control settings that allow you to adjust the drying temperature according to the requirements of different types of food. Most dehydrators have a temperature range of around 95°f to 165°f (35°c to 74°c).

Timer
Some machines may have a timer feature that allows you to set the drying time. Once the set time elapses, the machine will automatically shut off.

Air ventilation
Food drying machines have vents or air outlets that allow the escape of moisture-laden air from the drying chamber. This helps to maintain a consistent airflow and prevent the buildup of moisture.

Transparent door or lid
Many dryer machine come with a transparent door or lid that allows you to monitor the drying process without opening the machine, enabling you to check the progress of the food drying. Food drying machines are commonly used for drying fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, jerky, nuts, seeds, and even making fruit leathers or dried snacks. They provide a convenient and efficient way to remove moisture from food, preserving their natural flavors, nutrients, and enzymes.

Points to Consider When Purchasing an Dryer Machine

Size

The size of the particles in the material and their density determines the amount of drying that will be required. Fine powders have different drying cycles than sludge. Large painted or coated parts have further unique drying needs. The drying process can be further complicated by attempting to dry items of different sizes with different particulates in the same batch. The density of an item determines the speed at which it moves through the dryer and whether special types of conveyance are necessary.

Moisture content

The starting moisture percentage and the ending moisture percentage need to be calculated. This aspect of the assessment process can be completed by testing the weight differences between the wet and dry percentages of a material. The calculated water weight is used to determine the size of the dryer. This part of the process has to be the most precise since the slightest error can cause the water weight to change resulting in the selection of the wrong dryer. Another distinction between materials is in regard to whether the water is surface water or absorbed, which significantly guides the drying process. Different methods of vaporizing are used for surface water compared to internal absorbed moisture. Whether the water is internal and absorbed or external and surface helps to decide if any pre-drying procedure is required.

Heat

Each type of material reacts differently in the presence of heat with some products having a chemical reaction at a certain temperature. Other materials may melt, burn, or explode when exposed to heat over an extended period or when the temperature reaches a certain level. This factor can be controlled by the heat source since heat sources can cause different reactions. How an item reacts to heat determines if the dryer is large or small, the amount of time of heat exposure, and whether the heating method should be direct or indirect.

Material handling

Material handling refers to how the substance to be dried will be placed in the dryer. Wet and sticky material may need to be forced through to prevent them from plugging or clogging the dryer. In those instances, nonstick surfaces or paddles can be built into the dryer with clean fittings to remove places for potential buildup. Many modern products are extremely fragile and have to be handled with extreme care to avoid damage and waste. This type of situation demands a conveyance method that is non-abrasive and gentle. The reverse is true for coarse or gritty materials that can damage the surface of a dryer and shorten its lifespan.

Production requirements

As with every industrial operation, there are production limits to be met with each production run. The size of an industrial dryer has to meet the production amounts that are expected of a process. Included in this aspect of the selection process is whether the dryer will be running continuously as part of an assembly process or work with batches. Under sized dryers can slow down production and be overloaded with inappropriate demands. Industrial dryers can be a separate mechanism that is used when needed. Conversely, they can be a central part of an assembly process and must be timed to the needs of the production operation. This part of the selection process determines where an industrial dryer will be located in relation to assembly and production needs.

Cost

Industrial dryers are a heavy duty piece of equipment that are an important part of production and product quality. As such, they are purchased using the same parameters as any other type of machinery, which includes their initial upfront cost and the expense of operating them.
